Whether you’re at home by yourself, or you’ve been thrust into the role of primary caregiver to multiple children each day, self quarantining presents many new challenges. One of the main challenges is staying mentally stimulated with an abundance of inside time. You can only watch so much TV, and it’s nice to have a variety of entertainment options that stimulate your brain in a variety of ways. Earlier this week, we posted about virtual museum tours, which are a great educational option during quarantine. Today, we’ve got virtual farm tours from the American Dairy Association!
For Younger Kids, a Tour of Dutch Hollow Farm
In lieu of actually being able to go out and visit locations on a field trip, virtual tours make for a great replacement. The virtual tour of Dutch Hollow Farm is a 50-minute video that includes question and answer segments with American Dairy Association representatives and actual farmers. You and the children will get to see some visual illustrations and learn about the process of feeding and milking cows. The ADA recommends this tour for children ages 4 to 9. As an educational option, this offers a nice break from streaming television shows.
Kids 10 to 13 Will Enjoy a Tour of Will-O-Crest Farm
For children that are between ages 10 and 13, there is a video tour of Will-O-Crest Farm. This tour functions much like the Dutch Hollow Farm tour, but the tone is a litter higher level and will be more suited to kids in this age range. There’s an in-depth look at the milking process, as well as the transition in care that is made between calves and adults. This North East Dairy will answer common questions and give children an up-close look at dairy cows.
High School Students Can Check Out the JoBo Holsteins Tour
For high school students, the JoBo Holsteins tour is a great option. This tour includes more footage and visual demonstrations from a working dairy farm, but the conversation is a level that high schoolers will appreciate. They address questions about antibiotics, raising cattle, and different cattle breeds. Finding different ways to stimulate and educate yourself and your children during this time will present a challenge, but there are some great options available!
